TOUR ITINERARY
DAY 1: Horse Riding in Arusha National Park
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Arusha National Park gate (Ngongongare Gate) where you will meet with horses and guides, and starting your ride. There will be a briefing on the do`s and don’ts in the bush and afterwards you will depart on horseback. Soon you will reach to the area known as “Little Serengeti” which is open pasture, home to plains game. Expect to see buffalo, zebra, also giraffe and a mix of small game. Afterwards you will continue your way by passing through various glades and forests with breathtaking scenery. Often enough spoor and fresh smell will remind you of the close proximity of the forest inhabitants. You will stop at the Park-Rest house, the original home of the famous „White Huntress “Margareta Trappe, and enjoy your meal somewhere near this historic environment.
Afterwards you continue towards Mt. Meru and just before sunset should arrive at yourmobile camp in the middle of the fantastic setting of this impressive mountain. The fly camp usually consists only of a basic, yet comfortable tent under a beautiful Acacia tree, with toilet tent and classic hot bush showers next to your tent. You will enjoy comfortable beds and linen and the stars that are visible from your pillow, and the night noises of Africa that are the background to your sleep. Nothing brings the experience of Africa closer…
Non-riders will have the choice of jeep for all the routes or, for those who enjoy walkingyou recommended the beautiful “Nagy trail” that connects the grave of the originalfounder with the Park Rest house, home of the “White Huntress”.
Waking to the calls of Colobus monkeys you will start early and ride through a “fairytale”forest with tree ferns and moss. What you really hope for though, is the chance for apeaceful meeting with a herd of magnificent African elephants. There are many pathswith tracks and spoor, giving away the presence of hidden eyes watching you. Look outfor the colorful Hartlaub´s Turaco with deep red wings, their calls echoing far throughthe forest. You will reach a well-known landmark of Arusha National Park: The “Fig Tree Arch”, anatural feature created by assorted animals and birds.
Brunch is set at a placeoverlooking plains and lakes with a bird’s eye view ending only at Mt. Kilimanjaro. From there you can descend to the thundering waterfall at the base of Mt. Meru. Part ofthe route is too steep to ride and requires to be done on foot. Next to the waterfall thereis the buffalo glade – where you are guaranteed to meet some buffalo which be watchedfrom a safe distance whilst they are grazing or resting… lots to do for your cameras!Thereafter you will return to your camp for dinner and overnight.
Note:Non-riders may enjoy a sleep-in or may visit the Fig Tree Arc by vehicle. After brunch awalk across the buffalo glade and waterfall is highly recommended.
A long ride in the morning leads you through dry forest and savannah where you look forward to seeing giraffe, buffalo, antelope and other game. Thereafter you will make your way back to the park gate and enjoy some faster paces. This morning there is a chance for non-riders to get a different experience – change the vehicle against a canoe and explore the small Momella Lake. The Momella lakes are populated by flamingo and lots of other fowl. Hippos may be seen in close, but safe, distance and there are good chances to watch other game near the water edge, such as buffalo, giraffe and smaller species as antelope etc. After the canoe trip you will meet the riders at the park gate.
Departure:This is where your Horse riding comes to an end but plans for the next trip evolve! Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back ho
