Climb Kilimanjaro... with Action Challenge


 

Overview
This is special for 2018 - 2019, where you will be lucky to summit Mount Kilimanjaro through Machame route, to start Climb Kilimanjaro...with Action Challenge. Machame is the most popular route due to the fact that it has a very high success rate of summiting to the top.

Arrival

  • A transfer from the airport (or hotel) can be arranged for extra cost.

Day 1: Kilimanjaro Machame Entrance Gate

We begin our climb at 6,000 feet, walking for a few hours through thick and undisturbed tropical forest. Admire the magnificent bird life and the many unique flower and plant species, and with any luck, you might get the chance to see the blue or colobus monkeys that populate the forest zone.

Day 2: Machame Camp 2980M - Shira camp 3840M

You’ll have a phenomenal view of Mt. Meru and start ascending over the clouds. You continue your trek for another 2 hours through a gentle moorland. Along the way, you’ll be able to see Kilimanjaro’s great Western Breach with its stunning glaciers.

Day 3: Shira Camp, 3840M → Barranco Camp, 3900M

This chunky remnant of Kilimanjaro’s earlier volcanic activity is several hundred feet high and the trail passes right below it. There are numerous photo opportunities, especially if the walls are festooned with ice. Barranco Camp is in a valley below the Breach and Great Barranco Walls, which should provide you with a memorable sunset while you wait for your dinner. Camp: Barranco Camp,

Day 4: Great Barranco Valley, 3900M → Karanga, 4000M

This day offers superb vistas of the Southern Ice fields. The terrain changes to scree, with pockets of lush vegetation in sheltered hollows, and there is only a short distance to our camp at Karanga, the last water point on the way to the summit. Camp: The Great Barranco Valley,

Day 5: Karanga, 4000M → The South-East Valley, 4800M

This day we follow an easy path on compacted scree with wide views that gains altitude unrelentingly to reach the Barafu campsite (4600 M) for lunch. There is a short acclimatization walk to the plateau at the bottom of the South-East valley (4800 M). The remainder of the day is spent in preparation for the final ascent before a very early night.

Day 6: South-East Valley → Uhuru Peak, 5896 M → Millennium Campsite, 3800M

We will start our ascent by torchlight at around midnight so that we can reach the Crater rim by sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (5,735 m) in about five or six hours. We will have a short rest there to enjoy the sunrise over Mawenzi. Those who are still feeling strong can make the two hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m), passing close to the spectacular and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area.

Once you reach the very top, make sure you spend a moment to Congratulate yourself and celebrate the fact that you have just reached the Roof of Africa. Enjoy the views before heading back towards camp. The descent to Barafu is surprisingly fast, and after some refreshments, we continue to descend to reach our final campsite Millennium.

Day 7: Mweka Gate, 1650M

After a leisurely breakfast, a sustained descent through lovely forest with lush undergrowth takes us to the National Park gate at Mweka and on through coffee and banana farms to Mweka village. Trekking duration: 4-6 hours.
